11-7-09 Grandpa's Flag
Every year at this time our local American Legion and VFW ask family members of our deceased service men and women to allow their flag to be presented on the court house lawn. We are a small community, that chooses to honor our veterans who are with us, and those who are no longer. Our square is an amazing site on Veteran's Day.
Today, my husband's grandmother called to ask if he would be able to pick up the flag from her home and deliver it to the Legion, so they could have it ready for next week. He was not available, but I was honored to do so.
His name was Ed Parr. He served in WW2 in Europe as a mechanic on bombers. He was stationed in England. He passed away in the early 1990's shortly before I met and married into the family. He is my husband's hero as a man, but next weekend he will be honored as one of the heroes to our Nation.
