Terisa Lingafelter (CountryRoadPhoto) > 11-24-09 Night lights

Have not been around for a few days, so I've missed you all. I'm sure to try to catch up on your pics. This one was taken while I was on my way home from a Bears game. We took a wrong turn and ended up in a cute town... not sure where this is, but we were stopped at a light, and I liked the view.

Yeah, it's a little early, but I couldn't resist. I took this candid shot before the family pic that I was really asked to take.
Terisa Lingafelter (CountryRoadPhoto) > 11-19-09 The Young Hunter

I love the hunting pictures that you see hanging on office walls... or at least I did growing up in the Midwest. Every small-town-country-executive had at least one. Many were oil paintings or water color or color pencil, but they all tried to bring that "rough around the edges look" to the man wearing the white collar and tie. I can't hold a paint brush to make anything more than a stick man, so this is my attempt at the office art of the 60's and 70's.

As always, if you have any other ideas, please feel free to let me know. You can never hurt my feelings.

And George Fillmore, my husband (the cop) doesn't look at pay close attention to my dailies, so let's just say some things are best left alone. ;-)

Just in case you ever wondered:
This is what happens when your driving home on a long stretch of rural highway at night behind a semi, and you get passed by a semi and a school bus heading the other direction all within the 15 seconds the shutter is open and the camera is sitting on top of the steering wheel. =D

This is also what happens when you realize that you don't have a shot for your daily.

Terisa Lingafelter (CountryRoadPhoto) > 11-16-09 First Hunt

Sorry to those of you who may be vegan, but we are carnivores in our home. My son was very proud of his first pheasant, and it did taste good. This is the youth hunt sponsored by many local businesses and the local chapter of Quail Forever. Also pictured on the left is my husband (and proud father) and to the right is the volunteer dog owner/handler.

The program gives kids the opportunity to hunt for free in a safe learning environment. Pictures from the morning and afternoon hunt can be seen on my site under events.

Today we took my 12 year old son hunting. One of our local dealerships helped to sponsor a youth hunt with the local Quail Forever chapter. I went along to help by taking pictures. The rest of the hunt can be seen on my site under events. The kids seemed to have a great time.

I didn't have time to take a picture today, so this is another shot from our Veterans Day celebration in Jasper County, (Newton, IL). It is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful sites to see these flags fly around our court house. It is especially amazing to know that each of these flags represent a Veteran who is no longer with us. Each flag has that Veteran's name and time of service (Edward Parr WW2).

Each year, my husbands grandmother allows the American Legion to display her husband's flag proudly. Each year, we spend the better part of 30 minutes walking through the lawn reading the flag to find Grandpa Parr's flag. Of course, this being a small town, we find many others we know along the way as well.

The program is always closed with TAPS. I have yet to make it through without a tear.
Terisa Lingafelter (CountryRoadPhoto) > 11-12-09 Veterans Remembered

Each Veterans Day our small rural county (population 10,000 in the entire county) has a short Veterans Day celebration on the court house lawn. The entire lawn is decorated with flags that belong to our past service men and women who have passed away. It's the most beautiful that the square looks all year... even more beautiful than Christmas. The families allow the local Legion to display the flags, and they do it well. My husband's grandfather's flag, and his great-grandfather's flag were displayed among the hundreds on the lawn today.

A few years ago, our county raised money to build this memorial on the lawn. It reads, "DEDICATED TO THOSE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND IN SPECIAL MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES" I thought that the reflection of the flag in the memorial was especially beautiful.

God Bless our Veterans

Terisa Lingafelter (CountryRoadPhoto) > 11-10-09 And the Greatest of These is Love

These Granite/Marble monuments surround the Cross (see yesterday's picture). Each of these has a box next to it with a recording about the scripture. When asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus said, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. And the second is like it, Love your neighbor as yourself."

As we prepare to remember our Veterans, this only seems fitting. For many of these brave men and women have loved their neighbor more than themselves.

The Cross Foundation completed a 198 foot Cross at the intersection of Interstates 57 & 70 in Effingham, Illinois. The site is intended to serve as a beacon of hope to the 50,000 travelers estimated to pass the site each day. The Cross Foundation is dedicated to building both faith and family on an ecumenical basis.

If you look to the foot of the cross you can see the road and cars that are very small in comparison to the cross.

Terisa Lingafelter (CountryRoadPhoto) > 11-7-09 Grandpa's Flag

Every year at this time our local American Legion and VFW ask family members of our deceased service men and women to allow their flag to be presented on the court house lawn. We are a small community, that chooses to honor our veterans who are with us, and those who are no longer. Our square is an amazing site on Veteran's Day.

Today, my husband's grandmother called to ask if he would be able to pick up the flag from her home and deliver it to the Legion, so they could have it ready for next week. He was not available, but I was honored to do so.

His name was Ed Parr. He served in WW2 in Europe as a mechanic on bombers. He was stationed in England. He passed away in the early 1990's shortly before I met and married into the family. He is my husband's hero as a man, but next weekend he will be honored as one of the heroes to our Nation.

God Bless our Veterans!
Terisa Lingafelter (CountryRoadPhoto) > 11-6-09 Last Warm Sunburst

I've tried to catch the last bit of autumn before all the leaves are gone. This is a tree outside my home... one of many, but one of the final few holding leaves. ...goodbye warm sun (sob, sniff) see you in April.
