11-13-09 Stars and Stripes... Forever
I didn't have time to take a picture today, so this is another shot from our Veterans Day celebration in Jasper County, (Newton, IL). It is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful sites to see these flags fly around our court house. It is especially amazing to know that each of these flags represent a Veteran who is no longer with us. Each flag has that Veteran's name and time of service (Edward Parr WW2).
Each year, my husbands grandmother allows the American Legion to display her husband's flag proudly. Each year, we spend the better part of 30 minutes walking through the lawn reading the flag to find Grandpa Parr's flag. Of course, this being a small town, we find many others we know along the way as well.
The program is always closed with TAPS. I have yet to make it through without a tear.
